Zinc Stearate Description

Zinc Stearate is a zinc salt of stearic acid and belongs to the metallic stearate or metal soap group. It is generally supplied as a fine white or off-white hydrophobic powder. The product is valued for its lubricating, release, anti-sticking, water-repellent and surface-modifying properties. It is widely used by plastic processors, rubber manufacturers, paint formulators, coating manufacturers, masterbatch producers and other industrial users.

Zinc Stearate has low solubility in water and creates a smooth, water-repellent surface. Its low coefficient of friction helps it function as a lubricant between raw materials, processing equipment, mould surfaces and finished products. One of the most important industrial uses of Zinc Stearate is as a mould-release agent. It helps processed materials separate more easily from moulds and production surfaces. This can reduce sticking, improve production continuity and support a cleaner finished-product surface.

In plastics and polymer processing, Zinc Stearate may be used as an internal or external lubricant, processing aid, release agent and acid scavenger. Its exact role depends on the polymer, stabiliser package, fillers, pigments, processing temperature and dosage. In PVC formulations, Zinc Stearate can contribute lubricating and stabilising functions. However, it must be used as part of a properly developed stabiliser system because its performance depends on the complete formulation and processing conditions.

Zinc Stearate is frequently used in polyolefin compounds, masterbatches and filled polymers. It can help improve powder flow, pigment dispersion, mould release and processing behaviour. It may also support the neutralisation of acidic catalyst residues in selected polymer systems. In the rubber industry, Zinc Stearate is used as a release agent, dusting agent, processing lubricant and anti-sticking additive. It can help prevent uncured rubber sheets or compounds from adhering to each other during storage and processing.

Paint and coating manufacturers use Zinc Stearate for sanding, matting, water repellency, anti-settling and improved surface characteristics. It is particularly associated with primers, wood coatings, lacquers, sanding sealers and related formulations. Zinc Stearate may also be used in cementitious products, construction chemicals, paper, crayons, pencils, metalworking formulations and selected personal-care products.

The required grade must be selected according to the intended application. Technical-grade material intended for plastics, rubber or coatings should not automatically be considered suitable for pharmaceutical, cosmetic or food-related use. Buyers requiring a regulated application must state the intended use and required quality standard before ordering. Suitability should be established from the approved specification, Certificate of Analysis, supporting documentation and customer testing.

Vinipul Inorganics Pvt. Ltd. supplies Zinc Stearate to manufacturers, processors, formulators, distributors and institutional buyers. We support domestic and export enquiries for standard as well as customer-defined technical requirements. Customers may enquire based on zinc content, ash content, free fatty acid, moisture, particle size, bulk density, melting behaviour, colour, packaging and end-use application.
