Tetra Sodium PyroPhosphate Description
Tetra sodium pyrophosphate, also known as Sodium Pyrophosphate, Tetra sodium phosphate or TSPP, is a chemical compound composed of pyro phosphate and sodium ions. Tetra Sodium PyroPhosphate is odorless, white powder or granules having melting point 995°C with density: 2.53 g/cm3. It is soluble in water having solubility 3.16 g/100 mL (cold water) and 40.26 g/100 mL in boiling water.
Tetra Sodium Pyrophosphate is manufactured by method which includes forming a mixture of particles of sodium tripolyphosphate and a adequate quantity of sodium carbonate or a sodium salt capable of forming sodium carbonate on heating below 700° C. to provide a mol ratio of sodium to phosphorus in the mixture of from 1.90 to 2.10, the particles of the mixture having a sufficient small size such that at least 95% by weight of the mixture will pass through a 180 micrometre sieve, keeping the mixture at a temperature of from 300° C. to about 700° C. for a adequate time to change at least 95% of the mixture into sodium pyrophosphate.
