Sodium Stearate Description
Sodium Stearate is the sodium salt of stearic acid. It belongs to the group of fatty-acid salts commonly known as soaps or metallic stearates.
The product is generally supplied as a white to cream-coloured powder, flakes or granules. Its physical form, fatty-acid profile, sodium content and processing behaviour may vary according to the manufacturing method and required grade.
Sodium Stearate has a hydrophilic sodium carboxylate portion and a long hydrophobic hydrocarbon chain. This molecular structure enables it to interact with both water-based and oil-based components, making it useful as a surfactant, emulsifying agent and formulation aid.
It is one of the principal components used in conventional soap systems. It contributes cleansing action, structure, hardness, foam characteristics and the physical consistency of soap bars and related products.
Sodium Stearate is also widely recognised for its ability to form structured gels. This property makes it useful in solid deodorant sticks, cosmetic sticks, cleansing products and other formulations requiring a firm but spreadable structure.
In personal-care formulations, Sodium Stearate may function as a cleansing agent, emulsifier, thickener, gelling agent or viscosity-control ingredient. The required grade must be selected according to the intended application, purity standard, odour, colour and regulatory requirements.
In industrial applications, Sodium Stearate may be used as a lubricant, processing aid, release agent, dispersing agent, emulsifier or anti-caking material. It can be incorporated into rubber, plastics, coatings, inks, polishes, metalworking compounds and speciality chemical formulations. Unlike Calcium Stearate and Zinc Stearate, which are substantially water-insoluble, Sodium Stearate has greater interaction with water. Its performance can therefore differ considerably from other metallic stearates.
The product’s behaviour depends on water temperature, pH, electrolyte concentration, fatty-acid composition and the presence of other surfactants or solvents. Buyers should evaluate the supplied grade under their actual formulation and manufacturing conditions.
Sodium Stearate can be produced through the neutralisation of stearic acid with a suitable sodium alkali. Commercial products may contain a broader fatty-acid distribution depending on the raw-material source and required specification.
For applications where colour, odour, chain-length distribution or purity is important, customers should provide a detailed specification or sample requirement before ordering. Vinipul Inorganics Pvt. Ltd. supplies Sodium Stearate to soap manufacturers, personal-care formulators, cosmetic companies, industrial processors, distributors, research users and institutional buyers.
Domestic and export requirements can be supported with commercial packaging, quality documents and supply coordination based on the buyer’s quantity and delivery location.
