Sodium Triphosphate is the inorganic compound, white in colour, granular or crystalline solid, highly soluble in water producing an alkaline solution. Sodium Triphosphate is manufactured by neutralization of phosphoric acid solution using sodium hydroxides along with sodium carbonate. Sodium Triphosphate has formula Na5P3O10 and the sodium salt of the polyphosphate penta-anion.
Sodium Triphosphate is manufactured by a process that includes the steps of (a) reacting a sodium compound such as soda ash (Na2CO3) or caustic (NaOH) with either wet process phosphoric acid or furnace process phosphoric acid to form a reaction mixture containing monosodium phosphate (NaH2PO4) and disodium phosphate. Sodium Triphosphate is used as a component of a wide range of domestic and industrial products, particularly detergents.
